Poetry is useless
Poetry is Useless
A deeply personal editorial project developed for a university exam. A booklet of original poems rendered deliberately unreadable through graphic intervention, a visual act of censorship that paradoxically amplifies the power of what it attempts to silence.
The project is a social denunciation of the gradual erasure of poetry from the American educational system. By collecting a series of original poems and then making them unreadable through graphic manipulation, the booklet mirrors acts of censorship and opens a dialogue about freedom of expression, the role of education, and the enduring power of poetic form.
The booklet was designed entirely in black and white, a deliberate choice that reflects the seriousness of the subject. The stark contrast between ink and paper, combined with strategic white spaces between poems, creates a visual rhythm that guides the reader through the content. Every aspect, from the graphical text manipulation to the layout, printing, and hand binding, was executed with meticulous attention to detail.
A self-contained editorial object that communicates its message through design rather than legible language. Despite attempts at silencing, the essence of poetry finds expression through alternative, visual forms. The booklet was conceived, designed, printed, and bound entirely by hand.
