Editorial Design

A personal project designed to make studying more engaging and effective. A set of colour-coded cards bound by a metal ring, each presenting a topic on the front and key words on the back: a physical learning tool rooted in cognitive science and refined through design.

01

Flashcards was born from the desire to improve the studying experience through design. Each card represents a bite-sized piece of information: a topic on the front, key words on the back. Colour coding organises subjects visually, while an openable metal ring keeps the set together and easy to reorganise. The result is a dynamic study tool that makes information more accessible and retention more intuitive.

02

The design is grounded in two cognitive principles: active recall and spaced repetition. Active recall strengthens memory by prompting the user to retrieve information rather than passively re-read it. Spaced repetition reinforces learning over time by revisiting cards at intervals. The visual system was built around these principles, with clear typographic hierarchy and deliberate use of colour to support fast comprehension and focused study sessions.

03

A self-contained study system that is both practical and visually considered. The physical format encourages active engagement with the material, while the design keeps the experience clean and distraction-free. The project was developed for the Editorial Graphics and Project Methodology exam and demonstrates how thoughtful design can meaningfully improve everyday tools.
